» Feature Writer Barbara Pytel - NCLB

Coming from a proficient school district in Iowa that is not in any danger from NCLB, I would like to comment on NCLB. What the NCLB legislation has done is take time away from teaching to document what we already do successfully. So much time is spent during in-service time to jump through hoops for NCLB that we are probably trading dollars for wasted time. If the feds pull money for non-compliance, then we would probably be ahead in money and time spend on in-services and could spend more time in the classroom teaching our students who already fall between 85% and 100% proficiency. Schools that are in the top 25% proficiency range should be able to post their success and teaching methods on the school website in lieu of playing the NCLB Game. Share with others and get on with teaching well.
