-- posted by guat2 » SuperMommie - Daytrana Skin irritation and our experience My son was diagnoised with ADD at 7. He is now 16 and has been on medication for 2 yrs. We have found his system processes the pills rapidly requiring him to take an additional pill while at school. This roller coaster effect from the pill drives him crazy. He has watched the FDA trials and data till finally the patch came out. He began the patch in August 06 and absolutely loves it. Yet it has not been without its problems. There is atleast a 2 hour delay in the morning till the patch is fully in effect. He sets his alarm, puts the patch on and sleeps an additional hour. The first rx the patches removed from the liner easily. The second month was a nightmare removing the patch off the liner. After many experiments I finally called the manufacture. They said to fill the rx with the 10 count boxes and sent me a 40 count cupon card to replace the damaged patches. The pharmacy unhappily filled the rx with the 10 count boxes and we haven't had any more issues with the liners. Our next issue is the irritation it causes to his skin. He rotates the patches on his hips but they are sore and almost showing a thickening on the skin. Applying neosporin and skin creams is helping but not a solution. Is there anyone with experiencing the same issue? Next problem being 16 pulling the hair off his hips was similar to waxing! He now clears a spot with his razor eliminating the evening screams! His school work is fantastic, he doesn't argue, typical teenage procrastination is still there, but he loves the feeling of a stable thought process and his self-esteem is definitely shining. Nothing is without its issues but from this son's point of view life is looking less like a roller coaster. -- posted by SuperMommie » yoyo22 - Efficient Method of Taking Liner off of Daytrana Patch In response to Daytrana Patch posted by guat2:After a week of frustration I have figured out a relatively efficient method of taking the liner off. All you have to do is put your fingernail underneath the one side of the liner in the center that you will peal off while you hold the other side. Next with your finger nail pull up quickly underneath the side of liner that you aren't holding. This will separate the liner from the glue fast enough that the glue doesn't come off like it does when you peel it of slowly. It takes a couple times to get used to but I have been doing it for over a month with out a problem. Let me know how this works. -- posted by yoyo22 » momto1girl4boys - Daytrana Skin irritation and our experience In response to Daytrana Skin irritation and our experience posted by SuperMommie:
-- posted by momto1girl4boys » nikki410 - Daytrana use w/ my teen son My son just turned 17 and has been using daytrana for a few months we had problems with the backin and skin conditions as well. Please parents of teens get further information on the drug from other sources, web md has this Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: blurred vision, uncontrolled movements (twitching, shaking), uncontrollable outbursts of words or sounds (e.g., Tourette's syndrome), unexplained weight loss, mental/mood/behavior changes (e.g., agitation, aggression, mood swings, depression, abnormal thoughts, hallucinations).Your healthcare professionals (e.g., doctor or pharmacist) may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first. Avoid taking MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within 2 weeks before or after treatment with this medication. In some cases, a serious (possibly fatal) drug interaction may occur. If you are currently using any of these medications, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting this medication. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin), clonidine, guanethidine, drugs that can increase blood pressure (e.g., epinephrine, phenylephrine), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone), tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., imipramine, desipramine), SSRI antidepressants (e.g., fluoxetine, sertraline), other stimulant medications (e.g., amphetamines). Also report the use of drugs which might increase seizure risk (decrease seizure threshold) when combined with methylphenidate such as bupropion, isoniazid (INH), phenothiazines (e.g., thioridazine), or theophylline, among others. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details. Check the labels on all your medicines/herbal products (e.g., cough-and-cold products, diet aids) because they may contain ingredients that could increase your heart rate or blood pressure (e.g., pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine, ephedra/ma huang). Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these products. -- posted by nikki410 » kkridler - non-stop talking In response to non-stop talking posted by JenM73:Give it a few days. That happened to my son too, but now he's OK. So glad to find this chat! We are having trouble with the liners too. Seems to vary box-to-box. I have also noticed that some days it works beautifully, some days it's like he didn't use it at all. Anyone else experiencing this? He wasn't able to swallow the Concerta (he's 8) and I love the patch because I can put it on an hour before I get him up in the morning and take it off as soon as homwork is done, so he sleeps at night. He was not sleeping with the pill. -- posted by kkridler » kkridler - patch causing motion/car sickness In response to patch causing motion/car sickness posted by guat2:My son got very sick on a recent 3 hour car trip - even after taking Dramamine - and he was wearing a patch. We removed the patch and he was OK within an hour. -- posted by kkridler » kkridler - Daytrana Skin irritation and placement In response to Daytrana Skin irritation and our experience posted by momto1girl4boys:Does anyone know if it matters where on a kid's leg/hip you place the patch? The hip area is hard for my son, it has peeled off a couple of times when it rubbed against his underwear. We have started putting it on his upper thigh, but I am not sure it is working as well there. Does anyone else have trouble with the corners peeling up? Is there a reason it has to go on the hip? Thanks. -- posted by kkridler » daniskids - Daytrana Skin irritation and placement In response to Daytrana Skin irritation and placement posted by kkridler:My Doctors said it can only go on the hip because of the thickness of the skin and absorption rates. I believe they are testing on other body parts now. I hope they allow one soon since my 54 pound, 8 year old son's hips are pretty small. He is on the 20 mg patch and it is bigger then his hip. As for the corners peeling, I have stopped any major peeling by wiping his hip with a baby wipe, then a paper towel and then holding it on for almost a minute. I also leave the paper towel folded against it while he sleeps another hour and a half. I found that if he sweats too quickly after it is applied, it peels up too much. Glad I found this place, I thought I was nuts with all the issues we've been having. Just another tip...I use a pair of tweezers to peel the backing off and peel fast.
