» medstud - Daytrana

In response to Daytrana posted by adhdmomx2:
The diagonal center is what I was referring to. Sorry for not being more clear. It tends to be hard to covey directions without pictures.

Also, it sounds like you do have bad batches. I just got a refill and every other patch has been difficult. A bit of the adhesive in the middle just wants to stay with the backing. I still use the "faulty" patches because the edges seem to be okay, not much adhesive is missing, and the dose does not seem to to be affected.

Another post mentioned cards for free prescriptions if you contact the Daytrana makers. Think I may try that. It doesn't solve the aggravation, but it helps the pocketbook. I'm also considering requesting the 10-packs because everyone seems to have less trouble with those. Have you tried putting them in the refrigerator for ten minutes?

Hang in there adhdmomx2.

As a side note, does anyone know what happens if you store the patches in the refrigerator all the time?

» hsm9329 - 14 yr old son feels sick/doesn't eat

My son just started using the patch. He will not eat lunch or dinner most days. He says he feels sick.. therefore he doesn't want to use the patch or anything else. His grades are slipping and his teachers are always complaining about him being distracted. Any ideas??

» premedstudent - The SURE FIRE way to remove backing!

In response to Daytrana posted by maria32955:

I had a hellacious time removing the backing. I tried several tips on this website. None worked flawlessly, each time. I came up with my own solution, that does work, every time. It is as follows:

Place in the fridge for ten minutes. Take the corner of one half and scrape about 2 millimeters of the sticky adhesive off the backing using tweezers or a fingernail. Next, take hold of the corner's tip and vigorously pull up on it a tiny bit, progressing the span of separation of the adhesive and backing by roughly the distance of three to five millimeters. Next by holding the tip of the corner, push back down and pull up again. This must be done precisely, and in a continues quick repetitive fashion until the backing is completely removed! That is all! It IS this simple.

If you can comprehend what I am having a hard time explaining, this will remove the backing without losing a single bit of adhesive. Every time.

» mj22345 - nausea and headaches

My son, who is now 12, was in one of the trial studies on the patch when he was 11. He had NO adverse side effects during the study and we were quite pleased with how well the patch worked for him... even better than the oral metadate he had been taking.

Now, he has been on the patch for nearly a month. At least once a week he has developed a headache and/or stomachache by about 7 p.m. I attributed this to the days he had forgotten to take his patch off until about an hour past the time he should have.

Today, however, he called me when he got home and said he felt sick on the bus. He took his patch off about an hour before he needed to and said he felt better. Then, he called me about 30 minutes later and said he was feeling sick to his stomach again.

We don't give him his medication on the weekends. I am wondering if this could be causing the problem?

Has anyone else experienced this type of situation with Daytrana?

» JenM73 - non-stop talking

My son, 5 1/2, started on Daytrana today, after the ADHD diagnosis yesterday. I don't think he stopped talking for 9 hours straight. I saw that others had the problem of their kids talking nonstop *after* the patch was removed, but what about during? Many other ADHD behaviors were much better, but the talking was a new thing and it was out of control. Will this pass? Pleaseohplease? Thoughts?

» guat2 - patch causing motion/car sickness

Has anyone's child said that they feel sick in the car since taking the patch? My son keeps telling me his stomach is upset and "weird" feeling afer being in the car for a few minutes. I asked him some timeline questions w/o raising his suspicions (he'll milk it!)and it seems that it only started since wearing the patch......

» mickey369 - Daytrana Patch

My son just started using the 15 mg patch and like many people I've read about, I'm having a huge problem removing the backing. The manufacturer should be absolutely embarrassed for not addressing such an obviously wide spread issue. I'm wondering if there is some geographical correlation due to heat which is causing the problems [i.e. Florida- many problems, Buffalo- not so many problems] May I recommend those posting on this topic, include their area. I've read quite a lot of "hints" to fix the issue, but the bottom line is that the manufacturer should have addressed the issue on www.daytrana.com. Refrigerating the patch, as suggested by some, may even change the makeup of the medicine.

To all those as frustrated as my wife and I, may I recommend an email to the CEO of Shire Inc., the manufacturer of Datrana at dpevans@us.shire.com [his name is Matthew Emmens]. I'm sure that after a large number of emails hit his inbox, a competent executive such as himself will do the right thing.

» Harryhomeowner - nausea and headaches

In response to nausea and headaches posted by mj22345:

We keep the patch on seven days a week. We gave him, our five YO, a "day off" early on in the trial and the next day he was very lethargic.

Now he wears it everyday although on the weekend he might only wear it 6-7 hours.

Other than a lack of appetite, which he regains just before bedtime, it's been a godsend.
