» Jess72 - Daytrana skin irritation and slow start

In response to Daytrana skin irritation and slow start posted by Burb15:

My daughter 7 year old just started taking the patch this week. I also noticed the red marking after the patch came off but seemed to be gone in 24 hours and she doesn't seemed bothered by it. I also noticed the slow start to the medication and it is very difficult to get her out the door in time with out a blow up. I guess I need to call the Dr and see about a 5mg dosage of focalin to help in the morning as I am seeing now that this must be the norm. I do notice that after it gets in the system it is a more even dosage and she seems to be better in the afternoon.

I was wondering if anyone else noticed that the edges don't stick as solidly as the center of the patch and no matter how hard I press and hold the patch I can still see they are not as securely as the rest of the patch. Have had no problems of getting the patch to stay on as of yet.

This is a great chat place, I was looking for someone else who was trying the patch.

» smithmjc - redness from Daytrana patch?

In response to redness from Daytrana patch? posted by momof4boyz:

My son is 8 1/2 and we have the redness issue, his Dr said that she would have to take him off the patch if the redness became a problem. My family loves the patch, my son seems to do extremely well with this medication. He has taken Adderall for 3 years with many problems. The mornings are slow, I have found that if I place the patch on him at 6 and get him up at 6:30 - 6:45 he is good to go when he gets to school. The teacher can tell you that if the patch goes on later in the morning, my son has a rough morning. I have found that the redness is not as bad if we place the patch on his hip bone in the front. If I place the patch in an area with more fat it tends to stay red longer. We also use Bendaryl and Avenno cream. Maybe this will help someone.

» Burb15 - redness from Daytrana patch?

In response to redness from Daytrana patch? posted by momof4boyz:

My doctors office says the Daytrana Rep. told them to spray the area with benadry and let it dry BEFORE applying the patch. ( we haven't tried that). My dd is a senior in high school and tried the patch for 2-3 weeks then called me one day from school saying it was, "driving her crazy" and could she please remove it. So, before giving up totally we decided to try it on her upper arm like her friend was wearing his. There is much less redness and she doesn't complain of the stinging as she did on her hip. I think the skin is less sensative on the upper arm and it seems to be working the same. Doctor approved it. B

In response to Daytrana skin irritation and slow start posted by Burb15:

Dear Burb15, I have a 16 year old that I would like to try on the patch. He was unsucessful on Ritalin sr. Does this mean that he will also be unsucessful on Daytrana? How did you get your MD to write Rx with your daughter's age? Also is this drug covered under insurance? Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

» valnan - stomach pains

My 11-yr-old son is on 20 mg patch and has been complaining of stomach pains, although dr. says since the medication isn't going through the stomach, it shouldn't be affecting him that way. My son seems to be eating more at lunch (at least he says he is) than he was on concertra last year, but seems edgy and not hungry when he gets home from school. He likes the 15 mg patch because less side effects, but its not as effective with focusing at school. Has anyone who's child has stomach complaints been able to resolve the issue? Do the stomach pains go away, or do they seem caused by constipation?

In response to Daytrana skin irritation and slow start posted by Jess72:

Yes, I am having the same issue with the edges of the patches not sticking. We put them on and massage them and then apply the pressure. However, within a few hours the edges are not sticking and then eventually the patches just fall off.

I was wondering what difference you noticed between the 10mg and the 15mg patch. We are just starting out, and think the 10mg is not working.

» skippypac - new to patch

In response to new to patch posted by BillDay:

Based on the request of my son's teacher, we increased the dosage of the patch from 10 mg to 15 mg, and it seems to have made a big difference. The biggest problem now is, my son DOES NOT eat! Every single bite of food is a battle. We send him all different stuff for lunch (all things that he likes) and everything comes home uneaten. As a result he is sluggish and cranky in the afternoon. His answer to everything is he is not hungry. Any suggestions?

» mmmom - new to patch

In response to new to patch posted by BillDay:
before the patch we were taking 10mgx3 a day, so the doc started on 10mg patch. totally didn't work, went to 15, just slightly better, now on 20. still taking 10mg ritalin in morning{45 min before getting him up,along with the patch}and taking 10mg at lunch, because he was not making through the school day. on the weekend i started just giving him 5mg tabs so he could get hungry and let him eat whatever. honestly the patch does little but keep him stable, i'm wondering if he still needs higher dose, but i'm afraid to ask the doc again. i really count on the protein shakes to keep him up and going. i also put the patch on different places everyday. sorry if this was erratic conversation, lots of people at coming and going

» marytyler99 - Applying Patch

My 7 year old son just started the patch yesterday. I am having a very hard time removing the backing. The Teacher also says he is not focused in the morning. The reason we swithed to the patch was because his previous medication Adderall 20mg was wearing off 4-5 hours after taking it. I am not thrilled with the application process of the patch. I also noticed he cries now. Any help on applying the patch would be very helpful.
