I use a gentle eye make-up remover to get the goo off his skin. I like Arbonne's.

We took our 5.5 YO off the patch today. The skin irritation was so bad the Dr. was concerned about eventual scarring! This works so well - what a shame!

Trying Focalin XR - wish us luck!

This patch is the best thing ever. As for skin irritation, there has been a little but it seems minor compared to the side effects my 7 year old son had with Adderall. He stopped growing for a whole year and lost a third of his body weight. It also killed his appetite completely causing excess stomach acid to ulcerate his esophagus and stomach. You just have to weigh the benefit against the side effects. Since this medication doesn't go through his stomach, it isn't causing those problems. So, the skin irritation is relatively minor since we can treat it with hydrocortisone cream over the counter.

In response to Daytrana Patch posted by mickey369:

My doctor also suggested placing the patch in the fridge to help make the back remove easier. Since doing so, I have noticed that the patch has absolutely no effect on my child. Before, I could see some change in behavior. I do think that the makeup of the medication does change. I have sent a message to the company, but have not received any response.

In response to Daytrana Patch posted by jand120:
OK maybe I am not losing my marbles. I have been trying the freezer trick too, which worked great - but - I was thinking that when i did that the patch did not work as well. My son wore one today - and had a terrible day, as if he hadn't worn one at all. I am hoping it was just first-day-back-excitement, but I am so frustrated. When it works it really works well, but it randomly does not work, and I can't count on it.That's not good when it happens on a test day. We are lucky to have a very supportive teacher.

» momto1girl4boys - where to put the patch

just wondering if anyone else got the go ahead from your doc to place the patch somewhere other than the hip. my son's skin irritation was just getting so bad. we took him in and his pediatrician prescribed a steroid cream to apply to his skin, and she said we could put the patch pretty much anywhere. it definately is not a permanent solution, but at least it gives his skin a little more time to heal between patches. she also said to prep his skin with eucerin, or aquaphor. i learned the first day of trying that, it's not a good idea! the patch will not stick when the lotion is on his skin... we are still very impressed with how well the patch is working, so i guess we'll take it day by day, and hope the manufacturer will eventually find the right balance.

» mj22345 - nausea and headaches

In response to nausea and headaches posted by guat2:

Only that one time did he talk about feeling motion sick. He actually did get sick when I was driving him home that night. Since that time, however, I have found that quite possibly my doctor may have misprescribed the dosage level on the patch for my son. When he was in the trial he had 10 mg dosage (a tiny little patch). When I got the prescritpion my doctor ordered, it was for 30 mg. Not knowing that my son had only had 10 mg before, I didn't question it. However, after calling the research facility where my son originally tried the patch, they informed me that headaches and nausea are/could be symptoms of too high of a dosage. It causes your blood pressure to rise - causing headaches, pain behind the eyes, and nausea.

In response to Daytrana Patch posted by guat2:

I'm just curious, because I haven't had a problem -- but is everyone that is having a problem seeing it with the lowest dosage level patch - 10 mg. That is what my son took during the research study and we did have a problem with the backing. The higher dosage level patches don't seem to have that problem. They are much larger and cut down the middle, so all you have to do is peel off one side, stick it on, then peel off the other side.

» pumpkinpiemom - Placing and Removing the Patch

I have a 13 yr old son who has been on the patch now for about 2 months and puts it on and off by himself. He is lucky in that he has no skin reactions at all. To put it on he says you should peel all the backing off first, it will roll up a little, but unrolls on the skin. It is important to hold it for 30-45 seconds to the skin with your whole hand to make it stick. He is now using a 20 mg, but has done this with 1/2 of 30 mgs and also 10s. Caveat-One time he took it off after only 2 hours and it left a very painful rash.
