» ethansmum - First day on daytrana

Hello- I am a mother to a six year old son with ADHD, depression, anxiety, and likely early onset bipolar disorder. We have tried several (ALL) oral meds for ADHD, in both short and long acting formulas, with the same effect - blissful mornings and "challenging" afternoons and evenings. Would love to hear how others are doing with the patch. Thanks.

Hi Ethan's Mum,

That's a discussion I would welcome. I haven't come across a child yet that is using the patch, so I have no idea how it is working.

Keep in mind that difficulty swallowing pills is a primary indication for the patch at the moment; as I understand it the FDA wants your doctor to only give it to kids who are having problems getting other meds down...

Readers: If you know someone on the patch, let us know how it's working.

I am a mom who was just advised to start using the patch. Picking it up tomorrow to start dosing on Friday. We are coming back on meds after a break so only starting with a small dose. Will let you know how it goes. And just as a side note we are starting on the patch instead of pills to try and prolong the effects thru the day and not because of trouble swallowing pills.

Well we are on day three of the patch. Although we are titrating up to her regular dose so I cant say a lot yet. Her appetite doesnt seem to be affected yet nor but I might be seeing a bit of change in behavior and attitude. The patch seems to be staying put and isnt bothering her besides being new and interesting. Seemed this old mom had a heck of a time taking the protective covering off though. Could just be deffective mom huh. Will check back in a few days but we dont up the dose for 7 more days.
